One of my goals for this year was to read all of Jane Austen.
I'm done with the novels. Now I just have some short stories and such to read.
I like Jane but I now know, beyond any reasonable doubt, that Pride and Prejudice is her best work.
P&P was my first Austen. I've read it a few times and there's just something about Mr. Darcy. In some of her other books I've found I don't like a character and it stays that way. Mr. Darcy is different. He has his reasons and they're noble. Also Elizabeth Bennett is someone I can cheer for. As opposed to the sisters in Sense and Sensibility.
I'm glad I've read them. Jane Austen is an amazing writer. She throws in humor when you least expect it. I feel like I have somewhat of an understanding of what life was like in England in her time.
Now for how I would rate the books....
1) Pride and Prejudice
2) Mansfield Park - I just really like Fanny. She wasn't perfect but she made the best with what she had. She stood by her morals.
3) Persuasion
4) Emma
5) Sense and Sensibility
6) Northanger Abbey - I really didn't like this one!
